Chances are you've heard the term "adaptogens", but if your first reaction was "adapto-what?" then you were like me. However anything that promises to give me better skin, less stress, more focus, and a stronger immune system has my attention.
Adaptogens are just making their way onto the health and wellness scene, as we're more stressed out than ever before, but the truth is they've been used for thousands of years in Eastern medicine and so I was curious to learn more.
So what are adaptogens, and what can they do for you?
Simply put, adaptogens are natural supplements derived from plants, herbs and (our fav) mushrooms - such as ginseng root, holy basil, cordyceps and reishi - that can help protect your body from stress and disease, boost your immune system and support your digestive system. Rather than serving a single targeted purpose, an adaptogen will (ahem) adapt its healing properties to whatever your body specifically needs at a given time in order to restore you to optimal health.
How do you use adaptogens?
Most adaptogens can be bought in powdered form which makes it extremely easy to incorporate into your every day diet, like adding it to your morning coffee or smoothie. The key here is consistency - the longer you take adaptogens the stronger your body's defense against stress and disease will be.
