Planning a Post-Wedding Retreat Off The Grid, Prince Edward County

Planning a Post-Wedding Retreat Off The Grid, Prince Edward County

It’s been so long since we last spoke!

I didn’t mean to drop off the face of the earth these past few months with my blog posts, but in addition to running things at the Double Happiness shop, along with another full-time career, I’ve also been busy planning a wedding that’s taken on a life of its own – especially these last few weeks.

I’ll be walking down the aisle next week to start one of the greatest adventures in life and, between all of this activity, I decided to surprise my future husband with a quick getaway to Prince Edward County for a little R&R after our wedding and before we jet off to Europe for our honeymoon.

The two of us have always been avid travelers, bitten hard by the travel bug since we were young. Exploring, discovering, tasting, seeing and learning. Even just breathing the air of another place fills me with joy because that’s when I know adventure is afoot.

Way, way out of town there is a little gem of a bed & breakfast nestled in Ontario’s wine country called The Edward. I’ve had my eye on The Edward for a while now because a getaway to a place where you can slow down, take those deep inhales of fresh air and lengthy exhales, and gaze up at a starry night is very appealing when you live in a bustling, always-on-the-go city.

The Edward is owned by two sisters, Jessica and Rebecca, and their husbands Payam and Mano, who dreamed of being the place for people to reconnect with the things that matter to them – family time, personal wellness, local food and the great outdoors (so much yes to all of that).

Whenever I plan a trip I always have lots of questions before booking so I typically email the host and pepper them with my inquiries. When I reached out The Edward I dealt with both Jessica and Rebecca and they couldn’t have been lovelier or more patient as they helped me plan this surprise getaway. They were full of suggestions for activities, restaurants and ways to make our stay with them as relaxing as possible, and even arranged to have a RMT come on site and provide in-room massages for the mister and I.

I booked us into the master suite which provides a wonderful view overlooking the gardens and allows for sunshine to stream through all day, or we can simply open the French doors to let a “calming breeze roll in” (oui!).

I have to admit what sealed the deal for me though was this old fashioned, free-standing tub which, if you’re slipping down into a bubble bath, would be the epitome of hygge. Check out their Instagram for more of that hygge feeling.

As a final touch I had Jessica prepare an in-room surprise which I’ll share with you on Instagram once we arrive.

On a separate note, since booking this special stay my interactions with the lovely sisters turned into a partnership and you can now purchase a Mindful Skincare Basket to enjoy when you book your own relaxing getaway. The basket includes our Starter Kit, a headband, face cloth and mixing dish. All you have to do is add it to your "cart" when making a reservation and it'll be ready for you in you room when you arrive!
